For the record, this film is very Korean, by which I mean it's not afraid to play with genres and go full ham/batpoop crazy. Good camera work, excellent mood setting, acting was hit or miss for me but the overall package is greater than the sum of its parts. It's not posh, good cinema, but it's loads of fun.
@tommytakis hah, that's a skill I mastered at an obscenely early age, friend :P
@Kernel Kurtz oh great now I feel I need to make a disclaimer. I have weird taste in cinema and series, just as weird as headphones, haha. I much preferred Venom to Aquaman, for example :))
It will hit theaters in the US in October for those interested. Parasite is my personal best film of 2019 so far! Already watched it 2 times, does get better with repeated viewings. Love its simplicity in telling quite a complex issue in today's world without being too self-indulgent. Excellent dark humor to match, too.
@Syzygy psh, poisoning their impressionable minds so early with horrible media. Bad parent! (Kidding :))
@obsiCO I personally found that one bit where the son and dad were just talking to be preachy, but the Asian in me took it in stride TBH (happens often enough). It has some compelling points, but I'd say it does toe that line of being self-important. Humour was f'ing bonkers good.
Honestly, with the exception of Miyazaki, Hosoda, Shinkai, and a few others who make "classics", every anime I like almost always has to have trope or fanservice-related caveats tacked on, it sucks. Notable example, I love Grimgar but hesitate to talk about it for the creepy sexualisation.
I miss the days of Kino's Journey, Wolf's Rain, Ergo Proxy, Yugo the Negotiator, etc.
@obsiCO haha, depends on the family, yeah. I get along with my parents but seldom delve into topics like this so it came off as a bit hammy, but makes sense to me that it's par for the course for others.
