Immoral profiteering cash grab of the publishing company for the latest version of a book that changed exactly 17 words since the previous version, which you could buy for like 25% of the price of the new one if you were allowed to use the old version (which you’re not due to collusion with profs/school)?
You’re in a different situation than I was back in the day then. Many profs insisted on only the latest version, which was crap. Some books costed hundreds, which is nothing but a cash grab.
I hated the idea of professors profiting from their books and changing things around every year to make kids buy new books. Out of spite, I photocopied relevant sections of the books and returned them to the bookstore.
I mostly just find pdfs online, some Russian site dedicated to having all textbooks on them for free. But some classes I need a physical copy to use on tests.
Due to this I've done the same thing @purr1n did multiple times, as well as sourced text from....other means. I just refuse to pay that much for textbooks.
Way back then... a British pound was worth more like three American dollars, but publishers still managed one pound = one dollar conversion when selling those books in UK.
