What part of a 3-head tube deck is no-frills? xD

No-frills from a user / maintenance perspective. Design obviously should be as elegant and simple as possible while still achieving the intended outcome. If SNR as good as a 3-head could be achieved with 2, that'd be just as good in my book!

Not even joking - if there was a boombox that put out some slammin bass at high SPL and weighed less than 75 pounds I would take it everywhere with me without hesitation.

It may not sound as good as my CDs, but I love using my Nak. Probably just fueled by nostalgia but who cares, I enjoy it. I'd love to see an easily obtainable 3 head deck.

The Naks are surprisingly good at digging info off the tape. Most obviously when you record your own tapes - can sound almost identical to the source... or maybe even a little 'better' if you drive them hard enough. My favorite tapes are the ones that are most compressed and saturated. Nothing like that growl, especially for beats and EDM. Makes my hairs stand up.

What about an old Nak CR-3A with a separate tube output buffer box? I wouldn't think that would be all that expensive.
