@BillOhio I don’t think banning a top player and refusing to give him the prize money that he has already won for making sympathetic comments is “apolitical”
@DigMe I'm guessing that the banned player, and every other player, was contractually obligated to not use Blizzards events as a podium for their political views which seems fair to me. The guy presumably chose to breach a contract so I'm still not sure what the issue is.
@BillOhio The most uncomfortable point to me is that we cannot use the battle tag of "FreeHongKong" while "FreeUS" or "FreeChina" accepted. I support the idea of being apolitical but imho it should not be 'selective' depending on estimated profits.
I don't exactly blame Blizzard for wanting their platforms to be free of politics. I definitely don't like the punishments the player and the casters got. The casters do have to own up a little as they knew what the guy wanted to say but firing them and baring from also casting other Blizz games is fucked.
@netforce I agree w your thoughts. It went way beyond wanting to be politics free by the shear punitive nature of the punishments. They made a clear statement.
At China's core the politics are communist. You want to make deal, they want to own you. That is it. Thing is China wants the innovation and freedom of thought of the West. Not going to work. Without compromise, nothing will work. Hong Kong is already showing symptoms. So complicated...
