So, I'm thinking of picking up a cheap Pro-ject turntable and the Schiit Mani... but... I thought well-cleaned records didn't sound noisy, is that not true?

It's not that noisy, even records that my dad's had since the 80's and hasn't cleaned once are bearable. They've got pops and bips all over the place, but the tone draws me in regardless. I kinda like it. :p I've got some new records and fresh out of the bag they have a tiny bit of clickage, but I don't really mind at all. It's not something you'll really notice if you're one to get lost in the music.

that is a really good answer BioniclPhile. In order to enjoy the medium you kinda have to accept the slight imperfections. But, I am a bit too neurotic and acclimated to the desolate quiet of digital.
