Try again but with a bigger tide coefficient next time

Do you mean tidal range, or is that something else?

At spring tides, high tide is higher, low tide is lower. Once, we needed tables, now all we need is an app for the phone.

You'll want the spring tides, then.

Is it rock scallops you have there, or swimming ones?

This sounds like what you’d say to the waiter at the seafood restaurant when it is taking forever for your food to come

@Cspirou, how long is the season? There are two neap and two spring tides every month. spring as in tides, not spring as in autumn.

@Thad E Ginathom just called spring "autumn" and somehow it made things clearer. #talent

@Thad E Ginathom - You probably aren't too familiar with my area but it has one of the biggest tidal swings in the world. It goes in and out by 4km every day, 6km during strong tides. I thought it would be deep enough during the weak period, but apparently not.

@Biodegraded - swimming ones. I didn't know scallops could affix to rocks like oysters

I'm guessing... Brittany? My mother country is England, and I have sailed in the English Channel, from Cornwall. I've experienced the fast tides and large tidal ranges of The Channel Islands, but I not Brittany. I never considered my navigation good enough to cope with all those offshore rocks!

@Thad E Ginathom, As Cspirou said, it was tidal range. We use a coefficient for that range, which is telling us how high and low the tide will be. Last week end was a 55 coefficient, which is pretty low, compared to a 100+ where it's easier to go and find seafood by foot.

Thanks. I don't recall the term. It might be new, or it might be something more used in France. Or I might have forgotten!

I only recall using tidal range in feet or m.

We also use the tidal range in m, but that's slightly different. It implies you know the depth of water. Useful when yachting.

    Sorry to hear that.

The British South-coast spring tides, iirc, are two or three days after the full and new moon --- so, if it is the same on your side of the Channel, you may yet have a better chance.
