@schiit I'm not sure the Fulla/Hel have enough features to warrant the "gaming" device tag. Mic input alone doesn't cut it. With the current market, I think it's almost required to have virtual surround, EQ options, and so on.
Agree with @Hands here. It probably sounds better than most of the gaming DAC/Amps, but it has fewer features than pretty much all of them. If you don't have strong software backing it up, it needs integrated DSP or something so you can switch surround etc. on. If I'm using a dedicated gaming interface, I need to be able to make footsteps louder and positional information more evident.
I don't mean to detract from the Fulla/Hel. I think they have enough merit on their own without the "gaming" label. And while not my initial, or a primary, concern, it could even cause confusion or resentment from consumers that expect more DSP/software-stuff from a "gaming" device.
We'll see how it goes. FWIW, literally nobody in the initial beta test (all gamers) thought they needed surround. Most mentioned they could use Windows' own Atmos capability if they needed it, or HRTF. Maybe we've been misled, but the market will tell.
Yeah, I thought I didn't need it either, or could use solutions built into games, until I tried SBX (Sound Blaster) and GSX (Sennheiser). That Mad Lust Envy's HF thread is so popular seems a testament to the popularity of these solutions even as Windows and games offer their own implementations. But, anyway, your approach is certainly reasonable and measured!
Schiit makes the holographic combo burrito filter (TrueMB), Dabbling with A=432Hz, Mike has done surround in the past, Ivanka, Native USB—> Solve for X—> X = Native Schiit Surround DownMix (LPCM multichannel to 2.0 TrueMB)
AV Receivers (Mandatory) require multichannel PCM (LPCM) output, regardless of ATMOS/DTSMA/TRUEHD. So question is, is WIN10/MacOS LPCM just sitting there for simple output thru USB (then TrueMB does the magic)? Hmmmm.
