@E_Schaaf has some sort of F7 clone that he brought to the meet to drive some Hifimans. I was really impressed by the setup overall.

I've also heard what I thought was an M2 before and it was impressive with just an Ether 2. Heck they run for around $1500 used apparently, which is damn tempting

"Resolution" has come to be related to the visual, rather than the auditory. I prefer more specific descriptions, including "very fine details" and "precise sense of position."

@Claritas though many parallels can be drawn between auditory and visual perception. Not as many as would negate distinction between them, but at least as far as "resolution" goes I can see how the term can be used in the context of audio; "seeing" finer detail with your ears?

I just noticed I revert to visual analogies describing sound! "tapestry", "texture", "depth", etc. are all terms I use for description, hah.

@ChaChaRealSmooth I actively avoid using "plankton" because... LOL at my rig being that nuanced, for one, plus I'm not sure I understand it myself. I do understand micro-detail and -dynamics though, which may or may not be a function thereof.

I just want it to be a killer of bulk and weight. If the LCD-1 sounds as good as the current LCD-2 or 3 at half the weight, then I'm sold.

With the exception of a little "air" you can hear everything that is worth hearing, but do take care and try to maintain your ears.

For sure. Part of it is that I want to see how the treble hits me at higher volumes with new amps and dacs.

This is one of those questions that I can only answer with what I used to do when I had better ears --- having never been a high-volume listener, I was most interested in how gear performs at low volumes.

But given the frequency curve of human hearing, there's going to be a minimum volume to know one is getting everything.

And then there is the hifi salesman's rule number one: Louder, unless already too loud, always sounds better.

Deciding what to eat for dinner is way harder than it should be. I can eat the same thing every day for breakfast and lunch, but dinner time rolls around and it's like trying to divide by 0.

I don't know. I felt silly for how proud I was when a tableful of Stax guys who disliked the HD800 all agreed that my system was the best they had heard the HD800.

quite the reverse actually! it’s enjoyable when more discover great gear and reveal additional synergies and traits.

For my preferences, I would say it is one of the best amps, without needing the qualifier “solid state”.
