    Thanks, the Overnight Sensations kit looks like it could be fun to put together. I’m not terribly handy, maybe that’s a good motivation to improve my skills.

    If you can find older passive JBLs like L19 / L40, they both totally stomp the LSR305 and would likely be cheaper too. Be sure to pick one with tweeter adjustment - love every 2-way 70s JBL I've heard.

    When dealing with small spaces, it’s worth understanding the role of reflections on psychoacoustics. Linkwitz (not a fan of his speakers) nevertheless wrote some practical stuff on this. Basically, you need a >6ft round additional delay for reflected paths compared to the direct audio path. Rear walls especially problematic. Consider serious (non-commercial) room treatments first if this is not the case.
