Some dents on screws, weird biasing between L and R that wasn't likely fault of Schiit cuz QC, something to that effect. Not a lot to go on but there's the whole thing about how impressions seem weird AF too
Honestly, I'm looking for a post that I might have imagined (hah) cuz I skim read loaners of gear in sorta interested in and MIGHT have glimpsed someone saying they had to tighten loose screws somewhere.
I've been busier lately so brain all over the place, and it's established I occasionally misread things, but I'm wondering where the hell I glimpsed that cuz it was definitely on SBAF.
As for Audeze, can't speak to their consistency cuz I might have only ever heard one sample of each model, but going off measurements I'm at least inclined to think they have had wide tolerances at least in the past. No clue about amps cuz I'm uninformed about them, but one side biased hot and the other cold seems like a very noob mistake for a reasonably successful company.
Finding the whole premise of a saboteur unbelievable. It's not like johnjen was on the tour and cryo zapped the cables. 4 people, one screw driver, this is like a remake of Clue with audio nerds. Doesn't pass the smell test.
Not sure if it's bad form to jump in here, but I'm having a rough time with this whole thing. I was the one who identified that something was wrong, but I didn't think I'd get flagged for it. Can't blame the admins though, I suppose I would have done the same thing.
Tampering summary: (1) Loose top screws, (2) multiple impressions on the potentiometer shaft where the setscrew was loosened and put back on, (3) bias is wonky. Could we have sent it out like this? Unlikely, since bias is checked twice and I look at all review/loaner units personally. But yes, perhaps somehow it went out like this.
Is it possible someone just got curious and opened it up, and the bias change is coincidence? Also possible. If you want CSI-level forensics with electron micrographs, we don't have it. But our lead tech who oversees the large assembly team told me "this Ragnarok has definitely been taken apart."
I personally don't think that punishing the people in the loaner program is merited, but I don't run this forum. Sorry for everyone who wanted to try this amp. In the future we'll just put tamper-evident labels on it so if it's screwed up, it's definitely our fault.
Blame me for loaner ending. I don't know what happened. It is what it is. However, I'm going to pull out the tried and trued SBAF adage of "This is why we can't have good things" without assigning any direct blame. Hence loaner cancelled. As for the rest, no comment on pending internal investigation to protect the innocent. It's not fair to the innocent members on the loaner to drudge this up.
Thx for the helpful comments Jason @schiit I was curious if tampering was a presumption or based on evidence, blame the impeachment hearings for my questions about this sort of thing. If someone from the loaner really did open it up, hopefully they'll just say so to clarify the whole sitch.
you weren't part of the loaner group, nor called into question, nor the arbiter of All Things Fair on SBAF. no one should have felt obligated to provide you any answer, only those involved deserve such.
I disagree @jexby. I was asking a question as a member of the forum, not obligating anyone to provide me with answers. I'm assuming no one felt obligated to answer my question on my profile post, because that's how it works.
You're beginning to feel like a small Chihuahua barking and guarding a house that doesn't need protection. But thank you for your nonsensical response and protection.
