And technicalities wise they’re no slouch either. And for 500 bucks??? I’d say the M9 is like 15% better, clearly a worse value, but I’d probably get them over the m7 myself
They look interesting. I’m a complete noob when it comes to iems but i like that hook they have, they always fall out of my ears hence my lack of experience. Currently trying an over ears momentum wireless and it’s pretty good but sound quality is not the best but I’m probably spoiled and have to dial back the expectations.
The IER-Z1R tends to be the bigger brother of the IER family that gets all the attention.
The M7 and M9 are great, I would get the M9 myself if I didn't have the UE18. Had a Sony event last year in store and I was definitely more wow'd in the moment with the M9.
The z1r is interesting, the large shell makes for some awkward fits for people. I have had friends enjoy the z1r but say it doesn't sit in their ears at all.
And then I have some friends that didn't like it the first time but on the second go around, shaving it as deep as they can in, they like it.
Fit is another issue with the Z1R, the thing looks and feels ridiculous in your ear. But I knew within 5 seconds of playing a song their sound wasn’t for me.
It could have been because I listened to so many not that great IEMs leading up to the M7/9, but when I played music for the first time, the just sounded “right”, in a way that not many in-ears manage. The tone, details, staging, all of just sounded right. Nothing in particular blew me away, but the total package is better than most
@YMO i would say it’s neutral but some might say the deep bass is boost a little north of neutral. And I think it was @Bill-P that said the upper Mississippi were boosted for his taste. I prefer my vocal to sound more how the Harmon curve would have them so vocals sound almost perfect to me, male and female. I’d say highs are about neutral for most.
I really can’t emphasize how impressed the fr/tonality was to me as soon as the music started, they just sounded so perfect in that regard to me. I know I’m gushing, but I don’t hear that very often ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ specially not without eq
M9 also slightly less warm in the treble, but very similar fr overall. I think deep bass and treble are the main improvements of the 9 as well, better low end definition, and then a moderate improvement across the board in clarity and detail vs the 7. The 7 really is an incredible value imo
@SoupRKnowva and @netforce I might have found the next IEM to try out. M9 sounds like what I like nowadays: Neutral with little warm. Thanks! Tell me more stuff that didn't sound like shit to you.
M9 will almost certainly be the next IEM I get. Would've got it earlier if not for the FDX.. but I briefly heard it some time back and totally LOVED it. @SoupRKnowva nailed it.. doesn't wow you.. but, man, it just sounds RIGHT. They scale nicely, too. Unfucked BA treble FTW!
