Busy, long-term goals in sight and improving my cooking skills. A good risotto is worth all the preparation. Tomorrow ratatouille. Mar 26, 2024 at 5:53 PM

Went for a bike ride. Quarantine in the Spring, when the weather is that nice staying inside feels wrong. So be it...

Random question. Do you wear a helmet when riding? Last time I was in NL (The Hague) I was surprised how few wore them. :)

We don’t wear them because we have the proper infrastructure to support bikes and people in cars are aware of them(and are fucked if they hit someone). We also learn to ride bikes not much later than we learn how to walk.

If you go places or just cruise around, you really don't need a helmet. If you want to race (speeds of 35 km/h) you need a helmet. Not joking, over about 20 miles/hour an emergency stop can really hurt...

I've heard people say that they didn't quit their job, they quit their boss/manager. Wish you the best of luck, insufferable management sucks.

We feel really blessed to be staying in a garage apartment of a house kind of out in the country with a big yard and a creek out back during this time while we’re here in the US. Daily family kickball games have been good for everyone. Before this it was 6 weeks spent in 8 different hotels while we tried to wait out the virus in Asia.

Much less traffic right now since so many people working from home, or unfortunately, out of work. But riding this week was way less tense than normal.

But I dunno why nerds/geeks/virgins don't like BOC more? Out of a lot of rock groups, they were mostly aimed at the Sci-Fi/Nerd crowd the most.

Get it A.S.A.P. If we have a good Summer, we are in trouble. Yeah I love nice weather but pollen, dust and dry particles of whatever can make me ill in a second. Also I work in the kitchen, cleanliness is life. I get really grumpy when people leave a mess...

No worries i will get on it. Dreading the summer too... worried about it stacking with corona for a double damage bonus. Then again i found my reaction to the grass more extreme than usual maybe i’m already infected. Still feel a “wet” ache in my lungs... might be stress idk.

I understand the measure. I have an issue with the economic damage though. If you are self-employed or you live pay-check to pay-check you are in trouble. Every person with fixed hour contracts which includes paid leave can coast. I do not have that luxury.

It's happening everywhere. California just called for home isolation for everyone 65 and over and closed all bars, nightclubs, breweries, wineries and brewpubs. Restaurants are supposed to practice "deep social distancing."

Same in Canada. Everything is shutting down. I'm totally fine with it though this is exceptional in my lifetime for sure. Flu kills 1-2 in 1000, this kills 30-40 in 1000. Our health care system is not prepared for that. I'd rather hang out at home listening to CDs than end up like Italy. My heart goes out to them.

It’s such a great book. I read it when I was younger and laughed at the ridiculousness of the first half of it but dropped it after that mid point. Picked it up years later and read it all the way through. It hits you hard how dysfunctional bureaucracy can be, the normalization of it in every day life, and how we’re all just trying to make it out alive (or most of us are). Still relevant in today’s society.

Humanity is frail. When faced with extremes populists and fixers show up and shove you around. Catch22 is more than the curse of contradictory bureaucracy. Catch22 is what happens the human measure is sacrificed for interests of either side. Humanity disappears, vice becomes virtue because virtue is vicious for certain people's interests. The last chapters...

Bad management isn't so bad when you work somewhere that you're responsible for your own work and can make most of your own decisions. It really sucks, though, when you're part of a team and management doesn't know/care to make sure the team succeeds. Been there, done with that.

@crazychile I think it's because there was already a great wealth of famous/talented guitar players, but Neil and Geddy broke more new ground, so Alex was less appreciated. He's the melodic heart and soul of the band.

He can go Mark Knopfler or full Hendrix out of the blue but without his fills/parts Rush sounds incoherent. Only Josh Homme is known for that skill generally. But Alex Lifeson takes it to another level.
