Yeah, I've already reached out to them. Haha yeah sorry, I'm just venting, I can probably get a replacement/refund. I'm just disappointed because I waited months for it to arrive and was so excited when it came and I heard it. And then it died so soon and suddenly. Production is really constrained because of the coronavirus situation, so not sure if/when I can get a replacement.
Tom from dunu already responded to me on messenger. He said this is the first "driver failure" he's heard of and would get a replacement ASAP, but since it's still reproducing sound he wanted to troubleshoot with me first. There's a possibility I inserted the tip too fast and it "pushed" the driver surround into an off state; maybe pulling out the IEM fast could "unstuck it". Trying it now.
Oh shit, I think it's working. This is a whirlwind of emotions... Still not as full-volume and full sounding, bass sounds not there... but continuing to try things.
Yeah, when it works it sounds great. It looks like the surround is so soft/fragile it can easily be disturbed when you insert the IEMs too fast though. Never had this problem before, guess I have to be careful from now on.
Continued doing the "vacuum -> pull out really fast" method, and the driver "popped" again, this time to full volume. It looks like it's "back to normal now". Will keep listening/waiting for things to even out. Looks like the issue was from the super soft surround.
Just want to commend DUNU for the tremendous customer service. Both Kevin and Tom reached responded immediately and within minutes and helped me troubleshoot things. Truly great and wonderful people.
Damn, I kinda want to delete this whole thing now, but I can't, and I think it's best that people know this exists in case they encounter something similar in the future.
No yeah, they're still sending a replacement. Tom from dunu explained it's likely because the driver surround, while small, is very very soft, and is more prone to vacuum issues. It makes a lot of sense, but just in case they're still sending a replacement and gonna thoroughly inspect this current unit.
"The best way to minimize / avoid pressure buildup ... is to make your ear canal as wide as possible. You can do this by opening your mouth and pulling your ear backwards / upwards during insertion. Once the tip is fully inserted, let go of your ear and close your mouth to make your ear canal narrower again and create a seal." Thanks for the tip James!
