Big frickin' surprise: the resident planar hater doesn't like an amp that is good for planars. Ferrum Oor is not for me at all. Apr 18, 2024 at 6:00 PM

My wife does that. I play her something I like. She loves it, plays it to death over the next few weeks. Not on headphones, so everyone in the house gets a mega-dose. Then I never want to hear it again.

Play something with a decent groove, especially Jazz or Funk and your feet tap. That is it. There are headphones that don't do that and I don't care, off they go. One catch, it needs a bit of power and then you understand. It is similar to the AKGs in that way.

What I particularly like about it, relative to HD600, is that the mid-bass makes orchestral recordings sound more realistic. Caveat: As long as the other gear doesn't make it sound too dark.

I lean towards HD600 because it works to offset the foibles of my other main cans, but the 650 is, as many have noted, a remarkably comfortable listen that you can just get lost in for ages. It works unmodded for basically every genre that doesn't mandate sub-bass excellence!

Glad the fit worked out for you - interesting that it's really comfortable for you given our somewhat similarly shaped large heads.

If you recall, does your individual headphone have a bigger headband than the one that showed up at the meet last time? I tried again with a different pair just to be sure and I still got a headache due to fit.

Headstage is small still, but once again, great imaging. Also, the voicing means that words are really easily discernable. Some sudden noises WILL make you jump; you were warned here first. Really, nothing to complain about. Movies is where I'll use my ZMFs or Utopia; depends what I grab first.

The 3900X has been a true workhorse for my VM farms. Too bad so many enterprise Microsoft applications apps are un-optimised. Set a 16 core VM for SQL synchronize and task manager reveals it only uses two cores at full with the rest idling. Still a nice step-up from my previous Duron.
