Don't need to check to confirm, but yeah. I'm certain at this point there are probably SOME competent and affordable Topping products out there, but just by reason of all this drama I'm going to make an active effort to avoid them, preference for budget gear be damned.

I'd rather ignore amr lol. My prejudice-ish take is TP (along with other most Ch companies) don't do anything to improve analog output stages. They closely follow the reference circuit provided by chip makers. For budget products (<$300) it can be ok, but that approach never leads to "great" digital products imho.
As far as I know, only Matrix really "tries." I mean, just look at the chassis; it's crazy over-engineered.
I find a [decent] metric for seeing a product's performance are classifieds actually. If people tend to hold onto something for a few years it says something about it.
