Now that I'm paying attention I just noticed Hi-Fi News seems to have awards for literally everything. Anyone know how to rank Outstanding Product and Highly Commended or is it just ice cream flavours where every one is someone's favourite?

Yep. Water heater at my aunt's place started leaking last week. The guy who came to install the new unit didn't care enough to install the gas pipe correctly. And the gas company had to send someone to fix it.

Ahhh crap, that sucks to hear. You'd hope that people would deal with others' property nicely when you pay them to, but sadly not always the case. Reminds me of when some contractors unplugged and scuffed my Bifrost MB while I was asleep. Livid!

I have a guy who is an assistant building manager at the local university. I call him first on just about everything, and then he hires the local plumber/electrician/carpenter (if he can't do it himself) - usually one of his friends.

I pay him significantly - I could get most things done for 1/3, maybe 1/2 as much if I hired random guy based on price. BUT...my guy gets it done, right, the first time, so that is what I am really paying for.

Hah, smart move! Not much in the way of good help hereabouts in my specific area I think, at least affordable, but maybe need to be less timid about spending.
