Yeah maybe not that crazy. Probably using the miata engine, or at least an engine that fits under the hood.
That is pretty cool though, I have seen that. Must be pretty crazy to have that much power in a car so small.
The power level would be totally dependent on how much the chassis can handle (besides the engine) in terms of cornering and handling at high speed. I imagine 200hp-300hp would do nicely in this.
Yeah, seems like with the stock engine, it is not too hard to get it around 200 hp with just a turbo kit. Should be able to get it higher by building engine, increasing boost, and doing whatever else you do to increase HP.
Whatever I do though, should be more fun than my impreza with a CVT and 148 hp. NA miata is about 2000 lb vs the 3000 lb of my impreza. Also manual vs CVT.
Why not first invest in tires and breaks? When you have so much lightness, add more control. Speed and power are relative. Control and handling make a difference. Even going slow you will feel the difference.
Yeah, probably would do that first. Always good to be able to control the power before you have it, rather than after. Plus it is cheaper and easier to do. But after I get bored with that, turbo time.
Plus I want to hear the turbo make its noises. Need a blow off valve.
If you really want to go crazy I've seen a miata that was converted to run of battery packs / motor. Changed the weight / balance, but was pretty cool.
For an NA, much above for 180 hp you'll need a new clutch, 200 hp you'll need a strnger diff, 220 you'll need an upgraded gearbox, and so it goes. A NA with 180 hp will be a lot of fun. All this to the wheels measurement.
