    Single ones can be used to denote quotation *within* a quote, though the one who made the listing seemed to be using them as a byway towards stressing certain words, as I did with asterisks :))

    Same character but not the same thing. Try the book "Eats shoots and leaves." Although, so far, I only made it through a couple of chapters. Still probably one of the most readable books on this stuff, that matters deeply to language lovers and programmers.
