I always feel ambivalent whenever seeing end-game items in one hobby are priced lower than entry/budget ones in another hobby.. Mar 22, 2024

Definitely one of the better recordings out there, regardless of mastering. I have CD's of OG 80's and the remaster, even the compressed remaster kicks the crap out of a lot of modern stuff.

As far as the dome in the Sapphires vs the Raal + Waveguide in the X series? Clayton Shaw says it’s more a matter of room size and application than sound quality.

X3's tweeter is AMT (likely out of Heil?) not raal ribbon AFAIK. My take of Clayton's statement is rather horizontally different than vertically so -- plus we need to doubt his unbiasedness.

You guys might, if you test yourself with one of the online hearing tests, or even a tone-sweep, find that you have patches of hearing well above your "limit." My HF loss is serious, and I can't hear most electonic-item beeps --- but I do hear one or two isolated frequencies well up there on the scale.

I'd rather ignore amr lol. My prejudice-ish take is TP (along with other most Ch companies) don't do anything to improve analog output stages. They closely follow the reference circuit provided by chip makers. For budget products (<$300) it can be ok, but that approach never leads to "great" digital products imho.

As far as I know, only Matrix really "tries." I mean, just look at the chassis; it's crazy over-engineered.

I find a [decent] metric for seeing a product's performance are classifieds actually. If people tend to hold onto something for a few years it says something about it.
