https://i.imgur.com/vDvekDC.jpg like the look, needs more mass loading / baffle damping. Have some adhesive materials on the way. Definitely a WIP. Maybe will get a open-ish 'cup' made that screws in without any acoustic obstruction.
Thicc as hell but certainly not bad, yeah. Don't have the X00EBs anymore but from memory I sometimes preferred them "naked", and might have built open cups if I had any skill at all to do so.
MEASUREMENTS - https://i.imgur.com/gXfS5uz.png not a bad starting place, just need to shelf treble down a bit and bring mids up a bit - should be no issue with the right damping and pads. Still plenty of bass.
The discussion over in Grado thread made me realise how much chamber design influences primary driver resonance, base X00 has it tastefully in sub-bass but open e.g. HP-3 or this seems to push it up a bit. Any clues on how to shove it back down?
If you want less bass, perforated pads or some type of venting mechanism on the ear side will do it. Or something like micropore on the backside of any rear driver openings, but that also might push up treble. I've also experimented with foams that couple the cups to the headband assembly, which can tighten things up and add tactility while also making things less boomy.
@fp627 I am no wizard, I'm just a reckless fool with no regard for the condition of my personal gear, who tries everything (even stupid ideas) and only posts about the few things that work. With enough trial and error, patterns and strategies fall into place.
Sometime I regret selling off my TH-X00 but did not like the sound signature at all. Thought the bass was way too muddy. Considered picking up a harder wood model.
