I want to go with Fluke 62, but the Amazon listing says "not for human use", but I can't think of why it would not work on human skin just like any other surface.

Ha, maybe. Perhaps there is a real reason - sensor tech or software read setup that actually makes a distinction between an IR gun to be used for human temp read and all other uses...

Going through a few classical tracks that I always feal like I need to seesaw the volume (to hear soft passages and/or keep loud section from blowing ears) and applying compression...I like it so far.

To answer your question - I don't know because IMO the differences in design between my Camphor burl Eikon and Monkeypod Verite is the deciding factor, far out influencing these wood determined cup resonances/reverbs...

Somewhere here at SBAF Zack mentions this, how the Eikon is very damped and controled (so lots of wool, etc.), and the Verite (Closed in particular) is the opposite. I think that is what one hears mostly. Since I have never compared the same design (either Eikon or Verite C) with differing woods, I can't really say how much the wood matters, though others have said it does to a certain extant...

Fact is, the reverb/resonances with the VC, particularly in the vocal region, too often bothers me and I wish it was better controlled/damped like the Eikon, maybe not as far however...

Does RME have an similiar box? Those RME Fireface units are more "standard" in that they are doing alot of anologue to digital interfacing, and they don't have digital AES in/out as near as I can tell.

You have to be able to slave the clock to your digital converter. Preserving digital fidelity with one wire is not as simple as it seems unless you have an Ethernet protocol like Dante/AVB/Ravenna.

The 8D does have word clock in/out. So I should be able to slave it to (pro - not most consumer dacs obviously) whatever DAC I am using, and be source/input agnostic - USB, Ethernet, s/dif, AES, or wherever should not matter...or am I missing something?

While it wouldn't be a direct apples to apples comparison, I have deliberately added low value RCL components into the signal path before to mimic different cables / out of curiosity (PSA: do not casually attempt this). In most cases the subjective difference was minimal to none - less than changing cable materials.

Technically speaking, too many potential things could happen, but general rule of thumb for me is if nothing is "at the ragged edge of stability" and nothing is being changed functionally, then small changes like a longer cable are usually OK.

I have a Norne Volsund for my Clears and love it. The stock cables were terrible and cripplingly stiff. He will terminate any of his cables with whatever you want.

I will end up selling the VC and keeping the Eikon and Elegia for when I need closed back because of my domestic situation. I have demoed the Utopia before, so I don't expect any surprises - I think I know what I am getting over and above my Clear...of course only on my equipment for a length of time will I know fur sur...

As much as I'd be happy to take credit for it I don't recall pointing anyone in the direction of a Utopia, haha. Regardless, I'm happy you found one for a good price given it's a proper TOTL can. Do share impressions! :)

Maybe it's just my own propensity for purple prose but I don't find lengthy walls of text offensive unless they end up ultimately saying nothing; YMO's was fine, I got the gist of the amp :P

I also just skimmed the whole thing cuz and properly read interesting bits. I definitely don't expect anyone to slow-read stuff like that unless they hate having time.

Too low and you exfoliate every night. To high and you will slide off. 400 Egyptian cotton is nice. Sateen is trash.

Well, with the Verite Closed, I don't miss eq'ing that BBC dip - that, and the bass not hitting as hard as the Asgard 3 suddenly the VC feals like a much more tonally even HP.

Also, voices don't seem quite as recessed on the VC - that and better seperation...I am liking this.

There is some leveling going on here through the VC (will have to return to Clear later). Bad recordings sound better, but the best recordings are losing a bit of their crystal clarity. Dare I say a slight "veil" is going on...not yet...

I'd almost given up and was going to purchase again. Should get to my humble abode Monday or Tuesday.

I think there are one or two decent sources listed there among the ringleaders of audiophoolery. 6moons? For the photography. I think they revolutionised audio photography. Good thing in that people started to take great pics, bad thing in that a simple snap wouldn't do any longer.
