I’m pretty sure they’ll last many many years as long as you don’t purposefully abuse them. Pads on the other hand don’t last as long depending on your clamp and hours of usage.
@famish99 are they your main driver? I have had mine about 3 years, but haven't changed pads yet, but I don't use them crazy amounts maybe 5-10 hours a weekish I would say
It was my second pair of headphones since starting the hobby, so quite some time now. As others mentioned, changing pads every so often needs to be done. Mine still have the original pads, but then again, mine hasn't seen regular use since I got my Auteur.
My 580s are from 2002 and have never had a pad swap or other repair. I love the extremely broken-in pads and moved them to my modded 6xx, which is why I use cotton dental gum swabs as risers under the rear side of the pad lip. Helps with imaging too. Who needs to spend on a replacement?
@ChaChaRealSmooth Thats interesting, I find that for most of the day I am listening to the HD 6XX during non critical listening, then actually listening to music is the Auteur, but honestly the Auteur are getting maybe 1 hour at most a day vs 8 hrs a day with Andro (Work IEM) and maybe 2-3 hour of HD 6XX/DT770 (depending on need for sound isolation)
@dncnexus I regularly rotate headphones, so they all get use. However, I can't use my system while working; it's too distracting. I like to listen by "visiting my temple of sound" vs listening casually most of the day.
