hows the treble? i find the ESS chip in my phone to be rather revealing of treble detail. do harsh albums sound harsh? Yggdrasil can sometimes be a bit too smooth
Well, it depends (a little bit) on filter choice. I use the linear phase ones (3 and 4), mostly using 3. It will be harsh on harsh recordings; the XSP in mode 3 is very neutral. Maybe just the tiniest bit of the old Sabre nasties, but really the smallest bit; mostly the treble (and the presentation as a whole) is just very energetic.
In terms of timbre, I feel the X-Sabre Pro has some of the best timbre of any D/S DAC, but extrapolation says the Convert 2 is slightly better in this regard. It's very "modern" and "hifi"; not really something I'd recommend to anyone blind.
Sounds like my next DAC lol. Thanks man! Do you think it might be a bad pairing with a Valhalla 2 and HD650 also? I'm gonna use this DAC mostly for speakers and was trying to find something really neutral
