Asian tiger mosquitoes are an invasive species that made their way to SoCal a few years ago. Now they're driving everyone nuts. They're not going anywhere unless someone miraculously invents a way to eradicate them. Blame inefficient importing laws. Wear lots of bug spray, especially on your lower legs. "Off" is a good brand.
@spwath I forgot about the moths. They show up in summer. This is a particularly "bad" year, in that there are a shit load of moths this year. Normally it's not that bad. They more just get everywhere than they do actually try to bother you, at least.
@YMO downsides to low humidity include chronically dry skin, chronic bloody noses, chronic sinus problems due to lack of moisture, etc. Humidity often doesn't "feel" good, but our gross bodies seem to like it from an operational standpoint.
@Hands 40% to 50% humidity is great, not 70% to 90% humidity like outside my FL apt. I been to Vegas once, I thought I was going to die. I wonder when I visit folks in SoCal if I'm going to feel like dying due to low humidity.
@YMO SoCal is semi-humid at times. I'm from a wet country (England) and never felt uncomfortable living here, aside from the occasional 110 degree days.
