I currently have a pair of cizek model two's on loan that are not bad but I agree it's an unnecessary compromise

Weirdly enough my 2-way L55's are a 14" and a 2" but they sound way more cohesive than any 8:1's I've heard. I guess the LE14A woofers run rull range with a simple cap switch on the tweeter instead of a more sophisticated crossover, and both are made of paper, instead of a hard-slope XO w/ weird material mismatch.

yes, this is exactly why. the ideal approach to a 2-way is filterless midrange driver and a cap for the tweeter. the better the midrange driver the higher you can crossover the tweeter. if you want bass you need a big box or a separate woofer. i will be building a large open-backed cabinet with a detachable front panel to experiment with mounting different wideband drivers

I'm a 2 way 8" t-line weirdo. subs and minimal x-over has kept me happy for a while now. space constrained means no BWC unless i get rid of my living room, GF, dog, and several appliances. oh, and sell my car, too. Then cram a bunch of hornloaded junk into my house like the japanese 200 sqft posters on audiogon.

The ORFAS go for those Devore's 2 ways with those 10 inch made by Seas drivers. I tried to hear them once at RMAF a few years ago but the room was busy, unfamiliar music, and it was RMAF so I had no impression...

Heard those at Cap Audio Fest in a monster sized room (with the matching subs). pretty meh.
