It will be better than the Ultralite AVB because it can be slaved over bnc wordclock to your converter. I’d rather go with an RME Fireface for digital interfacing box unless you want to use AVB or are cheap.
What I like about the 8D is that (as near as I can tell) it is mostly trying to be a digital router, at least in a way the others are'nt. So I can take digital input from anywhere (Ethernet/AVB, USB, AES, s/pdif) and route it to any output including all the above. No analog or D to A conversion, except for the phones up front
Does RME have an similiar box? Those RME Fireface units are more "standard" in that they are doing alot of anologue to digital interfacing, and they don't have digital AES in/out as near as I can tell.
You have to be able to slave the clock to your digital converter. Preserving digital fidelity with one wire is not as simple as it seems unless you have an Ethernet protocol like Dante/AVB/Ravenna.
The 8D does have word clock in/out. So I should be able to slave it to (pro - not most consumer dacs obviously) whatever DAC I am using, and be source/input agnostic - USB, Ethernet, s/dif, AES, or wherever should not matter...or am I missing something?
