Okay holy crap the internals are beautiful. Not-cheap components and difficult build but OMG. Allowance for tweeter surrounds at high volumes? This is a labour of love.
Beautiful. As that is CAD software, I'm guessing that the most difficult woodwork is taken care of by CNC, but yes, that's only part of the process, the whole design work coming before, and fantastic finishing coming after.
@Thad E Ginathom - He used to be a mechanical engineer for a major automotive company. He simulates every single one of his designs with full 3D. Like the sort of thing JBL engineers would do, not a 2-bit hobbyist.
Something else awesome is that he makes available all his plans for $15 each. He dares you to make it as good as he does.
The standmount speakers are really tempting. Drivers are super reasonable ($200ish for all 4), and the flatpack is roughly $600 excluding shipping. So most likely under $1000 for some ridiculously nice looking speakers (that hopefully sound as good as they look).
@fraggler - His speakers definitely deserve a review. His front baffle goes above what a typical DIY'r can do with an integrated horn and recessing the backside for rear mounting. I think there's even the option to buy his front baffle alone.
I plan on building his ES-300 horns for a pair of fostex drivers I have.
If I ever get access back to the fabrication lab I joined earlier this year (shut down still due to the pandemic), I will definitely buy the files to fabricate the enclosure. Assuming the crossover isn't crazy, it should only cost $400ish to complete a build.
