True, at face value they all suck. But with proper translating, uncovering sugarcoats, and reading between lines, I found them potentially more helpful rather than median rando posts or asr folks.
I mean... some of them are entertaining as background noise. :)
But yeah, to be fair, they do try to describe the sound to the best of their abilities. And if you stick around for long enough, you can kinda get a handle on their sound preference as well.
I usually find Headphones.com the best of the channels. I don't think Joshua or DMS are bad, but I think that they aren't as knowledgeable as many around here and some of their preferences really baffle me.
I do enjoy watching Joshua in particular due to his video quality. It is nice to see details video of the products.
Ultimately, I've formed an opinion that these folks are here with the intention to make me buy more gears, rather than to help me navigate the jungle. Shame... Tyll was one of the very few people to actually try the latter, and he's left it all behind. It makes me question the hobby and the industry sometimes.
Feel the same way but I am trying to understand them as a major culture of YT -- otherwise most of YT time would make me very nervous particularly for big channels. I heard much dirtier stories from car YT folks where manufacturers try to control reviews.
Bottomline, HP people don't seem to proactively tell a lie such as saying good when they don't think so.
@dncnexus Because I myself am biased, inconsistent, and/or not knowledgeable time to time, I am fairly generous toward subjective opinions as long as they're half honest. lol.
Andrew (Resolve) on The Headphone Show and DMS are pretty good. Joshua's video quality is really polished but I don't get much from his reviews in terms of concrete substance. I also enjoyed Metal571 but he doesn't post reviews anymore and I know he got into some scuffles with the SBAF high council.
I’m the world authority on the headphones I like. Unfortunately I don’t do YouTube videos. If I did I’d be able to watch my video reviews and find out exactly what I like.
I do enjoy watching Andrew from Headphones.com. He has better tact at explaining what a headphone sounds like and measurements. Most everyone else is fluff or entertainment. I do like that Headphones.com sends review samples out.
