And today's bad news! A broken pump part has flooded a room. From 3.30am, wife and I were struggling with that.

Our pressure pump is by Grundfoss. That, at least in this part of the world, is the Rolls Royce of pumps, and their service is pretty good. But this is covid lockdown.

My wife managed to get the number of someone who can help. He came this morning, and took away the parts that need replacing. Hopefully, within a day or two, we will have everything right again.

Plumber came yesterday, went to get parts. Returned today.

One part is wrong, so we are on dribble water still.

Covid lockdown: essential shops only, and that only for a few hours in the morning. So getting plumbing parts is like black-market shopping! Luckily these tradesmen know their suppliers and arrangements are made. But today, the supplier said there were police in his street, some tomorrow.

There was a brief opening up of shops before one week of strict lockdown (so everyone could spread the virus anyway I suppose) and we got our part. Pressurised water again. Yay. :)

Perhaps it is not so very surprising: she lost a sparring partner. But it's also clearly a difficult time, and any additional loss or hardship can make the whole state of affairs seem a lot worse. That's been my experience.

Then, no water at all in the taps. Had to hoist up a couple of buckets from the underground sump

I am on my second PSU. And the case and PSU have been kept, along with hard disks etc. Just the guts transplanted.

It's giving me some problems making everything work with Linux, especially setting up a new ssd as a boot device. Won't work. Fine... does everything so much faster, including booting, even from an hdd. So I'll just use the ssd for pics.

On the whole, it is *very* nice!

There has to be a higher-fi answer to this, but although I'm willing to pay more than $15, I'm not willing to pay actual-hifi prices.

There is an hdmi -> hdmi+audio-out box that is still fairly inexpensive, and might butcher sound less than cheap bluetooth. But would the firestick work if not plugged directly into the monitor?
        Jan 22, 2021
      3. Syzygy
        Syzygy
I would expect so. It sounds like the box under consideration is just used to split audio off of the signal. As long as it's HDMI compliant, it'll provide power to the stick, and I'd expect the audio to be Y'd between the audio out and also sent upstream HDMI to the monitor.

Usually monitors have software choices to turn on/off the internal speakers.

My monitor does not have any speakers. Oh... it has an audio out, which seems to do what an hdmi splitter does. I stuck earbuds in the socket: it sounded awful. It would also be cumbersome cable-wise, but then, so would the hdmi splitter.

My monitor is on an Ergotron arm (wonderful) but the cable space is jam-packed.

SQ wise Sennheiser are very decent even surprising for a BT unit. Issues are with quite low volume and subpar pads stitching. While the volume wasn't a concern to me, the stitch threads came off within 2 months of use. But this was for a 4.40 and 450 looks almost the same

@Abhishek Chowdhary I'd describe the inexpensive RHA earbuds I'm using now for bedtime etc as being low-volume, but it is enough for me: maybe the volume would be ok.

Hardly high-end, but... these are still too expensive for lousy build (stitch) quality, though. Did you make a warranty claim?
