$75-$100. But depends on how badly I want it and whether that mastering is available available as a download (legal or not). It's difficult to justify $100 for a CD that others can download for free on torrents. The most I've paid is $50 for a CD or SACD. I own a low print CD that is currently $100+ on Discogs.
One example for me is finding the SACD version of Jeff Buckley "Grace" (Analog Productions) for $50 late last year. It typically lists for much more ($125 on eBay now and $180 on Discogs). For discs like that I wait till I find a good price.
Torrents only have 128~ kbps mp3s since band never gained any popularity outside of Australia and I guess their internet is really bad. Pretty rare stuff for the most part. I can listen on youtube, Itunes, or spotify but none are lossless and CDs are from the 1998 and 2004. Discogs has zero copies of both at this time
Don't just check eBay, Discogs, and Amazon. Check other places that sell used CDs. I found the "Grace" SACD on Rasputin. It wasn't on eBay or Discogs. Check places like Rasputin, Amoeba, Bull Moose for the CD. I also got lucky and found a low print CD for free at a local friends of the library sale (that one is currently $100 on Discogs).
I find that when something is relatively rare and never came out here (Australia) there's a strong chance that the only place I can find it won't ship here... which leads to desperation and over paying on the next available copy. I've paid hundreds for single discs on occasion. I've also regretted every one I walked away from.
There is an unopened copy of White Albun on eBay Australia right now for $59.99 AUD with the 'make an offer' option. Is it the postage costs that are making it hard for you? I'm finding that my minimum spend for international post is about double what it was prior to covid.
I think I've paid 50$ for a CD. Limited Japan-only print of a string quartet covering classic prog. Their other album I've seen going for 300$. I'm afraid one day I might drink enough to do make a silly impulse buy.
Really depends if I'm a big fan of a particular band and if it's excellent mastering. I am not a collector that just wants things simply because it's rare. Probably over $100
I'm able to add that CD to my Amazon cart. Didn't try taking the purchase further. If it fails after that point get Amazon support involved to make the purchase happen.
