    People say Qutest is basically the H2 without HP amp and battery, and may actually be a bit better as pure DAC. If he doesn’t need the HP amp and portability, and considering the $ diff, I’d personally go with the Qutest among those 3 at least. The BP DAC is supposedly pretty smooth /euphonic if you really want that, but coloured as hell and fairly low-rez as far as I’ve read (+ measures like crap, if that matters)

    Qutest is a nice DAC and is generally available for 1200 in used market. You won't go wrong with it. It's little flexible with 1 to 3v line out. Border Patrol may need careful pairing with amp due to its very high output impedence but may have that dense tone of R2R DAC.
