I have never understood how Sony effectively lost all presence in the smartphone space. Then again I teeter between Samsung, Motorola, and HTC despite liking the Sony phones' camera performance so I guess that says something about what makes a phone appealing.
The Sony Xperia 1 II looks pretty awesome, and it has a headphone jack. I think Sony fell off the map with smart phones because they stopped advertising. They probably make more money selling components to samsung and apple anyway.
Aaaaaaand my shortlist for when my phone inevitably goes poopy just earned another candidate, haha. Either way I'm definitely in the minority but unless it's just snapshots I capture most of my pics in DNG and kill time with Lightroom mobile, so the image processing wasn't as meaningful to me as raw sensor performance.
@LetMeBeFrank yes. The Xperia 5 II looks even better/more balanced TBH. I am seriously tempted despite not needing an actual new phone (prob won't even consider it for another year at least)
Never buy a flagship new, I got the Galaxy S9+ just as the S10 was gaining traction and it wasn't too bad, haha. Yeah, with a battery swap it'll be exciting to play with!
I still like my Xperia 1. Sony sucks in US because they aren't with a carrier and they only aim for certain users. I still love that Sony unique screen aspect ratio. However, in US you need to pay upfront for one phone plus their phones don't work with all carriers with LTE/Wi-Fi Calling.
I almost preordered the Xperia 1II just because of the camera abilities. With the pro app it looks like an amazing experience.
The only negative for me is lack of Fi switching hardware, although that may not be such a big deal after all. I'll wait til I can get one more cheaply and play with it then.
