With a bit of exaggeration, every time I switch from Verites to anything else decently awesome, all non-Verites immediately sound too much in my face. No exception to date. lol
I have a lot of trouble going the other direction. If I start the day with something like the HD 600 or nearfield 2 channel setup, and then switch to Verite, I cannot stand how distant/recessed some things sound. If I commit to Verite for the day I don't seem to mind.
Solution is to have a headphone that doesn't have a big dip or bump there in the upper-middle mids, but still has an even downslope for that rich heavy sound...
Crazy how many headphones get the upper mids F'd up. Senn 600 series does it best, bit still a bit pushed. Gives them that up front spotlit sense of space. Little dip makes things sound further away and wider, but more diffusive as well.
I think that's kinda unsolvable problem as each individual seeks for mutually-exclusive values anyhow. Something can cut in nicely, but at least in my experience, it's just an imperfect compromise at best. As it won't reach where big dip shines magically by nature. That's my general take of Verite after a long term uses.
@Inoculator I had similar struggles before when sr1a in the house (verite remains not used for weeks), later I realized things I thought 'lost' were just there with different presentation and my ears can take care of distant vocals better than I thought (as I failed to find 'critical missing' in the end).
The best way could be just let yourself and them go freely, and observe how things stabilize.
By the way, I do feel hd600 is a little too hot in mid treble, and most nearfield 2ch is relatively uptilting than farfield to me. I ultimately let hd600 and sr1a go, and my 2ch settled down in far field configuration. Now everything else non-verite is manageably close to verite. And that solved the problem at the end of the day.
