@zach915m I have a question. Did you find anything sonically interesting with stabilized woods (not meaning fr at all)? Wondering if they sound relatively similar with LTD hard woods or something else.
My only request is that these pics all stay up in an archive somewhere both because they deserve it and I'd like to drool over them every now and again— the Maryjane is splendid :))
They basically sound like a harder wood because there's no pores anymore, so they lack decay, but they sound like a wood and sand and finish like one. The extra cost is all cost for the custom large pieces of stabilized wood we have to buy that end up costing around 200+ usd per board foot and takes a long time to prepare.
It's actually in the wood! (which is why the depth and chatoyance is so insane) They use this stuff called "cactus juice" after the wood is at 0% humidity to penetrate the entire thing in a vacuum chamber. it's really wild during machining because of the burl and color throughout the entirety of the wood were always holding our breath to see what the final look of each set will be based on how it cuts.
