Hardly a difference on the volume knob between the two with HD 600. Had been using High-Z. Sound very very similar to me, but this morning I did notice just a very faint amount of background hum via High-Z...so maybe that is my answer.

I tend to prefer high-z with Sennheiser 6x0 stuff and low-z with ZMF headphones. Not sure why, to be honest, but might have something to do with the impendance of the headphones.

I use my Arya with low-z and it seems fine. Can't tell a real difference between high and low but subjectively low-z sounds reacher.

I use high for Senns and ZMF and low for Clears. Clears bass it sensitive to higher OI's...

I can hear some background hum on high, so I mainly use low with sennheisers. On the other hand ZMF Eikon is quiet on high and prefer it to low.

Use whichever output sounds better to you. Not the SW51, but for me I used to use high Z on almost everything that wasn't a Focal or planar. Now I use low Z on everything.

@Lasollor I appreciate you sharing that. Glad I am not crazy to be hearing a faint hum on high Z from my HD 600. Didn't notice it the first day, but noticed today. Have been loving it out of low-z all day though!

HD650 hiZ stock and Atticus lowZ tungsram, despite being same impedance? I get hum on hiZ as well but fine with music playing.

I have a modded HD650 and a modded massdrop HD6XX and interestingly the latter has about 2x amoumt hum on high. Both fine with music playing but bugs me on quiet passeges. HD800 is fne on high much lower hum than the other 2. Eikon no audible hum on high.

This is the first I remember people mentioning hum from the SW51. Mine is dead quiet from both. Focals with low Z, Senns with high Z.

I used low Z pretty much all the time. My amp had hum which was worse on high Z. Ultimately it made me not enjoy the amp and sell it. Recently got a ZDT jr that doesn't hum and enjoy it as much if not more.

For me low output=no hum or minimal hum with most phones high=minumal hum to pretty bad hum depending on the headphone (koss porta pro hums very badly) But my SW51 has a custom transformer made one for japanese 100V so it might be different from the others. Also I had hum problem in the past with Jotunheim, WA6-SE, Vali2,Elekit tu-8200 but no hum at all with Magni 3+. Headanp gilmore lite MK2, DNA Stratus

@gixxerwimp Late reply, but mine is definitely a very very subtle hum from high Z with HD 600, but it is there for sure. Noticeable with nothing playing. I wanted to test today to make sure I was not just having an off day or something as I did not notice the first day I had it, but sure enough still noticing it this morning. Maybe my tubes are just a bit noisier or something
