@Elnrik It sure sounds that way. It was an obvious, yet unexpected change. Too lazy to swap back and investigate. I like it better now, anyway.

Needs “several weeks” to reach potential. As of now, presentation is exactly what I wanted - resolving and detailed but not shrill.

@Deep Funk Adjust gain on the amp? I don’t believe so. There’s only one button - power on/off. Outside of going balanced vs. SE not much to fiddle with.

DAC and Phonostage are balanced in to Freya. Will try going balanced from Freya to the RB-1582 MkII amp. Will miss Loki, though.

Just saw your post on Hoffman regarding pricing. That dude got the 10x thing wrong. Jason said the tech would sell 1x but remote and motorized knobs will sell 10x, meaning people are more interested in the cool factor of the bells and whistles. https://tinyurl.com/yyjj4ahu

Find a pair of used Buchardt Audio S400 if you can. I prefer them over the Dynaudio Special 40 (which are reportedly a fair bit better than the Evoke 20).

@rlow Getting a better amp made sense. That way, if I find a speaker I really like, I won't have to worry TOO much about ohms, sensitivity, etc. The Rotel should drive any of the speakers I've considered to their potential. Perhaps I'll pull trigger this summer!

Do planar headphones need to warm up? Not burn in, but warm up before each use?

Nope. Certain headphones if they are brand new do need some actual break-in (Verite comes to mind though it's a dynamic), but they shouldn't need warmup. That being said, the sound can change once the pads warm up on your head.

@m17xr2b @nishan99 @ChaChaRealSmooth - I think it is my headphone amp that changes. The Taurus MkII needs to warm up for 30 min (per manufacturer). Seems I notice this more with HE-4XX than other cans...

Very likely the case. I've noticed that most SS amps need some warm-up time to sound their best. The Aegir I have needs a bit of time to loosen up. Seems to apply to many (but not all) DACs as well
