Eliminated Modius/Asgard combo, Modius RCA just loses to JNOG. But Modius XLr/ Archel 2.5 competes with JNOG XLR/Archel. Think I have narrowed it down to Jnog paired with Asgard or Archel but they all have good and bad points. Such a great time to get into audio!
I still find it to be a tough call but with the JNOG I lean towards Asgard 3 slightly. The Archel is faster sounding but the Asgard has more depth and spaciousness to it and sounds a little more engaging to me.
The Archel is a little darker (treble sounds a little rolled pleasantly so and it has a little more midbass) and the Asgard is a little warmer (lower mids sound stronger).
The Archel has a somewhat compressed soundstage/dynamics which is the biggest negative for me. The asgard sounds a little more spacious and dynamic but its noticeably slower, especially with the Aeon Open RT which is usually quite fast.
I actually like Archel better for gaming specifically as its smaller soundstage makes it easier to pick out sounds, and its treble roll off helps with the frequently shit sound quality of games. I also like the speed for EDM/electronic stuff. For other music especially real instruments Asgard takes it overall though.
It depends on what your priorities are, if you are looking for punchy bass with great speed and a overall fairly pleasant sound, go for the Archel. If you want a more natural spacious, warmer and emotionally engaging style of sound the Asgard 3 is better.
Thats another good choice. I kind of like the idea of having two different sounding amps at my desk but it does seem like the Jot 2 would be better than the Asgard and Erish.
