As mentioned, we bought the TV to watch the USAian shindig on the 20th. In ignorance, I bought a Firestick as well as an Android TV. Here's a neat thing, though: although some internet folks say it won't work, it does: firestick turns my PC monitor into a TV.

So where does the audio go? tp-link Bluetooth Receiver. Cheap and sounds it, but it works.

There has to be a higher-fi answer to this, but although I'm willing to pay more than $15, I'm not willing to pay actual-hifi prices.

There is an hdmi -> hdmi+audio-out box that is still fairly inexpensive, and might butcher sound less than cheap bluetooth. But would the firestick work if not plugged directly into the monitor?

I would expect so. It sounds like the box under consideration is just used to split audio off of the signal. As long as it's HDMI compliant, it'll provide power to the stick, and I'd expect the audio to be Y'd between the audio out and also sent upstream HDMI to the monitor.

Usually monitors have software choices to turn on/off the internal speakers.

My monitor does not have any speakers. Oh... it has an audio out, which seems to do what an hdmi splitter does. I stuck earbuds in the socket: it sounded awful. It would also be cumbersome cable-wise, but then, so would the hdmi splitter.

My monitor is on an Ergotron arm (wonderful) but the cable space is jam-packed.
