The specs look the same, so the only difference I can tell is that the Clear has an Al/Mg diaphragm and this one says just "Mg" diaphragm...excepting as I understand it Mg needs to be an alloy in any practical application so this one is probably a Al/Mg as well so maybe moar Mg?? In the end ears will tell what the difference is...
IDK why people think new focal headphones will sound substantially different. Nothing is changed about the acoustic design or driver implementation. Much ado about nothing. No innovation here, just a desperate attempt to keep a product relevant that was dwindling in sales for sealed units. Lack of widespread marketing effort is further proof.
"....that was dwindling in sales for sealed units." By sealed unit you mean new as opposed to open box/used? Jude says the Celestee (sp?) is a genuine SQ update to Eligia for what that is worth. I do get the sense however these are all "mid cycle refreshes" meant to hold the brand over.
About 40% of NIB Clear sales have ended up in a customer return from what I have seen personally. And not because the owner had a bad front-end. They're just not selling, NIB or open box. Re- Celestee, sure you'll get a sonic update by partially venting the cups of a closed back. Still seems like a lazy half-assed attempt at actual R&D / product development.
Atleast its more interesting than Celestee. Magnesium should be better from mids to treble. Plus they didn't raise price from regular Clear. Focals are still the kings of milking you dry. Just wait when they will increase driver size, there's gonna be 10x more models.
