So I tried going up to 80 dB average and 92 dB peak, and I think I feel pain in my ears.

Walking to work in the noisy city will cause some to bump the volume ion my experience.

My average is 75-80 dB but I mainly use my airpods to listen to podcasts and informational YouTube videos, not music.

Also I’m probably half deaf from going to concerts without hearing protection from my teens through my twenties.

Honestly this just shows you're taking care of your ears, haha. Now I'm actually curious to try and see what my usual levels are with APPros. Stupid Apple and their novel ideas made easier to implement with the structure of their ecosystem.

@dubharmonic makes sense. I should try switching between ANC and passive and see how much I raise my average listening levels.

@Merrick @Lyander maybe, unfortunately I also have some hearing loss. I don't hear anything past 12-13 khz. I'm pretty sure it's not that hard for bluetooth headphones to report back levels. Should be a thing for protecting your hearing, especially for young'uns.

My hearing goes a bit beyond that, but yeah it's only a matter of time before it goes. Ageing and all that fun stuff.

Might look into getting ETY Kids to slow the descent anyway. Did you ever post impressions of yours, @yotacowboy? :p

@Lyander I'm not yotacowboy but I actually do also have a pair of Ety Kids. They're good, actually surprisingly not that far off from the ER4XR I had. They're quite a bit larger/thicker so they don't go as deep ;)

low distortion and lack of ringing/resonance and peaks helps things seem less loud than they really are. The opposite is also true.
