Imma gonna kick some artists in the dick if "I'm going digital!! yayz!!" means mp3 only through bandcampingstrips/iToonz/qckuoubus/OM(G)azon/pottyfi/napster. Like Weslie Willis said, "f**k YO SHIT". Pontiac. Driving excitement.

Are you saying the CDs are more expensive than vinyl, or that they're harder to find? Either would surprise me.

in some rare cases, this is where some streaming services like Tidal can be worthy. Lots of Helios albums, even old ones. And yes they are a pretty good band.

Nearly their entire catalog is on Qobuz, but I'm interested in the physical media. I'm encountering this with quite a few electronic artists, Tycho, Helios, Odesza; makes me wonder if the only masters are junky-ass MP3 files for some early off-label/independent releases

Seeing a few options for his earlier ones at reasonable prices used. The later ones seem to be available at the usual places. My annoyance is kinda the opposite: asking prices for good-condition OG vinyl releases approach those of new 180g and/or ugly-colour ones.

Yeah man I completely feel your pain on the lack of CD releases - DL + vinyl only seems to be becoming standard for much of electronic, ambient, etc. At best they do a single pressing of the CD on release (copies often mostly gone at the pre-order stage) and then nothing after that, even if the vinyl gets periodic re-presses.

And yes, OK, if there actually was a CD release back in the mists of time then I can usually get it (often at significantly inflated prices) on Discogs, etc. but then not a penny of that goes to the artist, which removes a big part of the reason I buy music in the first place

Precisely - if it's an artist I like, i'll be buying both CD and LP, but I'd prefer CD over DL for my digital library. Sure, 24/96 is neat, but I'm fine with 16/44 for non-streaming library.

Very happy with the rips of my older CDs. Have bought very little music in recent years, but have come to understand that "remastered" can mean "spoilt." Better to digitise one's own LPs, even if they are not perfectly clean. My brain is used to the imperfections on favourites anyway: the CD copy seems /too/ clean!
