On first look based on some pics and its case, I thought it would replace their $700 closed back model.. Little did I know it was $4K

What's the consensus on the Ara in 2021 for SBAF? still worth the purchase vs the OG Solaris?

Yeah that's why I was asking. Was interested in getting them with cohesion being a factor that irked me slightly with the solaris and the mild raspiness from the scooped mids...then I'm like...should I just get the 8XX and screw iems altogether?

If as of late you use mostly headphones, get 8XX. If not, think about it. I enjoy my Ara even if it is BA ville, but the 2k-8k can get on my nerves on some recordings.

All in the grinder my dude. A mazzer mini is the best investment I have ever made in an appliance. 4 - 6 double shots a day for me and the wife for 10 years now, and going strong with almost no maintenance. My shots went from inconsistent and frustrating to beautiful, reliable and topped with crema.

I just have a modern cello, but decent cello strings from larsen or spirocore cost a lot. almost 400 for a set, and strings usually are supposed to be changed every 120hrs....4 hrs of playing that's every month, but we don't abide by those rules strictly ><.

I think they are great! Prob one of the best linears out there. smooth stock, but you should lube and film them for the best sound. I have a sound comparison here for zealios vs tangerines.

Its entirely possible to alter sound via fw
During sony Ericsson days we had a tool "Far Manager". Used that to flash different set of audio drivers to 2 units of K750i and a W800i. Sony warm organic dsp was built in some of those drivers. The two K750i with diff FW we flashed had varying loudness and sound signature
