@Syzygy They actually offer tiny little amps for viola and violins, which is pretty cute. But yeah the “and viola” mondegreen is a Pearl Forrester-ism I picked up. Works better in her voice though.
I WILL own Maggies one day. I’m not sure the Schiit power amps are best though. Just what a little bird told me… And @ufospls2 thats a great point. It has to be more expensive to make a huge planar magnetic speaker driver vs headphone. How much are we getting played?
I did enjoy my 3.6R's for what they did well (staging, clarity, timbre, general smoothness), but after moving to JBL L55 w/ dual 15"s, there's no going back for my preferences. The JBL/subs setup also cost me 1/40 as much as the Maggies, tho I got everything at a steal vs paying market rate for the 3.6R at the time.
@rhythmdevils after owning 4 different pairs of Maggies I can say that if you want a live sound experience, Klipsch Heritage (and older varieties) do it better unless you only listen to string quartets.
@rhythmdevils there's a reason it was 4 pairs. They're intoxicating. If you can own multiple pairs of speakers, would be worth owning them and others simultaneously.
Good advice here! I’m a fan of Klipsch and JBL too. If you can find a nice used pair, they’re definitely worth the audition. The Magnepan LRS is pretty much unbeatable imho for those looking to try planar speaker panels or who want to see what the brand is about. It’s also for those on a moderate budget who are hesitant to go second hand.
