Just shows how fragile this whole contraption is. CenturyLink dorked up their BGP routes last year so badly they had to be unplugged from the rest of the internet to regain control of their routers.
From where I sit, in front of my PC, and as a layman, it's looks not so much as facebook/whatsapp/instagram is down, but more like the technical internet is refusing to talk to talk to them. Or about them.
Like... DNS is saying, "Who? Never heard of them!"
@Azimuth, I think it was far less competent than that.
We have discovered that three different public-facing-products all ran on the same system. We then heard that even stuff like office-door security locks were affected because they ran on the same system too. Who designs systems like that? Competent IT folk? Or... Just my hunch... a megalomaniac boss who is not as clever as he thinks.
