I always feel ambivalent whenever seeing end-game items in one hobby are priced lower than entry/budget ones in another hobby.. Mar 22, 2024 at 4:49 PM

It's always entertaining to imagine upgrading paths. Particularly so when I can afford. Whether I actually do it is another thing tho. lol

I'm on the other end of the spectrum. The only upgrades I imagine any more are upgrades to my music collection :P

I have this problem that if I liked one headphone enough, I would try to mod it into a (maybe bassier) HD650. The result might not be promising, but I always ask myself: what's the point buying other headphones if I just want to make them some new HD650-ish ones...

@Cspirou 100% agreed. I always keep coming back to 650 to check the baseline when I think something too good or too bad.

@E_Schaaf I'm dying to hear your newer products!

@Ti_Leo For that matter, I finally could separate tonality, technicality, and presentation. 650 excels in the former, but not so much in the latter two (in the way my ears can comprehend). Oh, I should say I'm not a big fan of 6x0 ergonomics.. lol

I play in a different price tier, but I still come back to the 650 it seems. I always thought the 800S was my next step, but then I listen to the 650 again after a while and wonder what I'm fussing about...

Got curious about EC Electra. Googled it, which led me to "ancient" posts in 2012 (not sbaf but changstar). Very interesting reads.

Initial impressions is that it is similar to early EC amps such as the 445 in sonic profile. Pushes the L700 well, and imo better than the BHSE that I tried a couple months ago. I will probably make a post here with impressions, although it is unobtanium

1.Lightweight (390g-ish in my scale) for what they can do.
2.By far the most comfortable among I owned or heard for the past three years.

I happened to ship a 1.8 kg package to S. Korea from Canada last week using DHL express and it only took 3 business days as well.
Shipping was insane at $290usd including the $65 insurance. That was also using the 35% off coupon code.

Wait, is it cold to you? Did you mean it's on the colder side among entire Stax spectrum? My a couple of meet impressions were rather the opposite (a little soft and warmer than the rest). By "spectrum", I'd like to include at least 009, 007, and legacy lambdas.

Not very familiar with 007 versions tho (kinda unsure between a, mk1, mk2, 2.5, 2.9, etc etc oh well)

No, not cold sounding, it just isn't as involving as vintage Staxen like the SR-5. Its fine as a daily driver, but I will usually switch to something else if I really want to feel the music.

Better (more powerful) amplification did help, but that "boringness" is a part of its nature.

I should admire Edifier. They fixed every singe issue that annoyed me during my previous Stax days (Lambda pros, LS, LNS, 207, 507, and 009). Bass heft is still not a strong suit. But this detail, this resolution, and beautifully refined highs. Awesome enough to overwhelm me.

Those are the toys of super-rich, whereas restoring something like an MG is relatively affordable.

I think some Americans like doing stuff like putting 6-litre engines in an ordinary body. And raising the thing three feet in the air. The latter I never could understand. Brits do, i think, have silly-powered drag racing, but those are not road cars.

Generally speaking those are fine, often even desirable, if you have a good system of governance in place. Things like the same person having different users where each has a different and specific account type or access to different business contexts.
        Good governance is expensive though.
