A long time ago I was on a forum that legit had a prompt. You could view most things, but couldn't post until you passed the Turing test. You would be shocked at how many people fail to string together a handful of sentences about something they're supposed to be interested in.... or fail to comprehend a basic 3rd grade prompt.
My head-fi experience was greatly improved by `ignore`ing a bunch of people. So I wonder if an `ignore newbies` option might be a worthwhile addition giving you control rather than imposing a systemwide change on everybody.
And of course, just as many treated that subforum AS the forum. They didn't even stop to comprehend where they were. Just clickin and typin thangs.
Moderating that was fun sometimes. It was really, truly stupid easy to pass. Just be normal for like 2-3 sentences. Just read for 10 seconds. You'll get what to write about.
Love the ideas here. I think the basic humanity test is best. Ignore newbies is bad though because it prevents well meaning newbs from asking things in the general advice thread and you don't want to shut the gate too tight. You have to risk some idiots to find quality
