Well, shaking machines do make lousy stands for audio!

Well designed spikes under speakers and most feeding equipment improve the sound much more likely than not. Observation wins over theory, always. People often get it wrong what spikes actually do mechanically - they do not provide isolation or decoupling; it is the opposite.
The audiophool thinking being that "isolated" would mean zero area of contact, so a very small area of contact is close to isolated. I have always thought, Duhhh, what?
