Two different sounding stock versions? Any way to tell the difference?

I just saw something about a price mistake where MP sold some for $150 ? Still have mine over 3 years now since launch.

@Merrick Both were modded. My LP is stock except for the XLR cap, the other unit is fully modded that I recently did for someone.
So, it's pretty much the same mod you heard with the loaner.

This unit, which has all of the capacitors swapped, which made my unit sound thinner than stock, has a thicker tonality, actually has bass, and slams pretty well.

Well, if you can recall, one way you could tell is how your LP compared to Mjolnir. Going from Mjolnir to this modded unit wasn't too different, in regards to bass performance. Mjolnir still had a slight edge in slam, but the LP had noticeably more mid-bass. So much so that, when I had it, my Gungnir A2's lack of mid-bass wasn't a problem anymore. Mjolnir has a more neutral tonality whereas this modded LP was warmer.

I pulled my unit out to compare because I knew I wasn't imagining things and sure enough, it sounded different. My unit sounds bass-lite in comparison and that's with bassy tubes in mine and stock tubes in the fully modded unit.

My unit is airier and has a more neutral tone in comparison.

This unit also had way more gain than mine and didn't have any channel imbalance. Both amps were measured at 70db, my volume knob was around 9:30 while the modded unit was around 7:30-8.

I bought my amp in June of 2019 and it has a hole in the middle of the tube sockets, whereas the modded unit doesn't have a center hole in the sockets. I believe the original batch didn't have the holes in the sockets.

I wish I could say there was an easier way to check, but there really isn't. You would need to have two units side by side to compare.

It's hard to say if it's bad QC or if it's just a rolling change like Gungnir A1 to Gungnir A2.

MORE gain? Christ on a bike, that's ridiculous.

While the gain was higher, making it less suitable for IEMs or high-efficiency headphones, there was no channel imbalance. That unit had a more useable volume range compared to mine. My unit has an awful channel imbalance until 70db on the dot then awful again until it's too loud to comfortably listen to.

The LP I used to have had no channel imbalance and no bass. Maybe it's just bad QC?

@jnak00 Man, that definitely seems to be the case.

Both are modded differently though? How is this a comparison? My stock LP definitely had bass. Just lacked clarity and resolution to me.
