Yeah I hate all that stuff but I still get excited about and watch the competition. Maybe something to do with the formative 80’s when I was 5 to 15 years old and we were still in the Cold War heyday. Watching the US men’s curling team is good medicine against feeling jaded about elite-level dopers. It feels like they might crack open a beer at any moment.
A couple of cycles ago the IOC almost dropped wrestling. I heard there is an event in this winter Olympics called "big air", which sums it all up in so many ways. I don't even like the athletes that much as they play the political/media/image/$money$ game to the same degree as all the others.
I'm not at all a sports person, but the winter-olympic photographs I see are amazing. Within past couple of days I have learnt of the existence of instruments of torture called skeleton and louge (?). I'm trying to pluck up the courage to watch some video!
