Ha! I’m one of those people that is very tech- savvy, I’ve always built my own PC’s (Windows and Linux), I’ve owned both Android and iPhones (at the same time). Either is fine but I love my iPhones and iPads. Just ordered a new M1 iPad Pro. But it seems like such a waste of energy to get one’s pride or identity wrapped up in any brand of something.
For the moment I’m firmly in the Apple eco-system. I had an Android phone for a bit and I couldn’t stand it. Apple I’m sure tracks my information but at least it isn’t used for advertising like Google.
I avoid iCloud though and prefer to use 3rd party or setup my own server.
Apple still facilitates apps in doing so, & if CSAM does get turned on it'll open the door to enormous abuse by governments. Whichever phone you have the 1st & easiest thing you can do to improve privacy is avoid apps & use a privacy based browser for those services. Like duckduckgo, Firefox Focus/Zero, or Firefox with privacy add-ons. 2nd avoid cloud services. 3rd turn off all the background services you can.
